Lesedi Municipality announces load reduction for Heidelberg due to grid strain

Illegal connections leads to load reductions.

Heidelberg will experience electricity load reduction starting today (June 19).

Lesedi Local Municipality has issued a statement stating that load reduction will be implemented to Lesedi district.

Load reduction is typically applied to areas with illegal electricity connections, meter bypassing, or excessive electricity consumption.

“The high demand on electrical networks is caused by illegal connections and meter bypassing. For these reasons, LLM is forced to implement load reduction to reduce demand and protect the power grid from total collapse,” reads the statement.

Anyone who is aware of any illegal electrical connections is encouraged to report them.

This can be done anonymously through the Lesedi customer call centre on 016 466 1901.
