Jurry Junior Stars puts Cambridge to the sword

The loss leaves Cambridge Reserves 13 points behind with five matches still to play for the season to be completed.

Cambridge FC Reserves (Bridges) were defeated 2-0 by Jurry Junior Stars during a local MFA tournament clash held at MacKenzieville Stadium over the weekend of July 4 and 5.

This match was crucial for Bridges to remain in contention for a spot in the tournament playoffs.

The top team in the tournament, Jurry Juniors from Duduza, had other ideas and were determined not to leave empty-handed.

Jurry received a penalty early in the match, which they converted to take a 1-0 lead.

The visiting team dominated play most of the time and caught Bridges off guard with attacking and counter-attacking moves.

Cambridge, on the other hand, spent most of the first half defending. When they did manage to string passes together, they lacked the finishing touch.

In the second half, Cambridge Reserves had to take control and go on the offensive if they hoped to cause an upset.

Bridges created various chances but failed to be clinical in front of the goal posts.

“We gave it our all, but once again, discipline was lacking and it cost us,” said Seun Matloung, Cambridge Reserves coach said Seun Matloung, Cambridge Reserves coach.

“The outcome of the match disappointed us. The discipline was lacking, and the loss will make it extremely difficult to promote the players to the first team. We will now focus on finishing in a respectable position,” said Ignatius Maphike, Cambridge FC chairperson.

The first team is starting to prepare for the new season after an out-of-court settlement regarding their suspension from the Hollywood Bets League.
