Pride and passion drive Ratanda Bertha Gxowa gumboot dancers to victory
Ratanda Bertha Gxowa Primary School's energetic gumboot dancers brought home first place in the Segarona District competition
The Ratanda Bertha Gxowa Primary School is beaming with pride after its gumboot dancers won the Segarona District Competition on October 23.
The school management was overjoyed at the team’s success, and noted that their achievement resulted from dedication, teamwork, discipline and a respect for rehearsal time and their coaches.
Deputy principal Magauta Motloung said, “We are proud to realise that the hard work and time we invest pays off. The discipline that goes with these efforts motivates more learners to be part of a winning team,” she said.
Motloung said that despite Ratanda Bertha Gxowa being a no-fee school, it raised funds to buy appropriate uniforms and cover some expenses for the dancers. Many of the learners have socio-economically disadvantaged backgrounds, making the achievement even more difficult.
“This competition involves a lot travelling, and our learners’ financial situations often makes it difficult for parents to contribute. However, with our limited budget, the school provided food and transport,” she said.
The victory has sparked excitement throughout the school and the community. Learners take pride in belonging to the school of winners, while parents and community members celebrate the school’s commitment to nurturing talent beyond the classroom.
“We cater ato nd encourage learner participation in extra-curricular activities and groom them holistically. We also respect and value their diverse cultural backgrounds. To the coaches and the boys, always aim for beyond the sky, but let it not be your limit. As a school, we are grateful to have you. May more parents be inspired to bring their children to the school of winners,” said Motloung.
