Dunnottar family loses everything after devastating house fire
A Dunnottar family is pleading for assistance after a late-night candle fire destroyed their home, leaving eight people, including a grandmother and child with nothing.
The Clegg family from Dunnottar is appealing to the community for help after their Malraison Road home was destroyed by a fire, suspected to have been caused by a candle, on November 3.
According to Ryan Clegg (40), the fire broke out late at night, around 22:00.

“When I woke up and walked into the passage, the house was already in flames. I called a tenant, and we tried to contain the fire, but it was too late. We then called the fire department for help,” he said.
Clegg explained that the house had been without electricity for some time.

“One tenant fell asleep and forgot to put out the candle in his room. It’s devastating, especially during the festive season. There were eight of us living in the house, including an elderly woman and her grandchild.”

Maruschka Clegg (27) lamented, “I don’t know where to start because we lost everything, including clothes, blankets, and furniture. We have to rebuild from scratch, and the tenants were our only source of income since we are both unemployed. We would deeply appreciate any support or donations,” she said.
