Taxi association prioritises passenger care
The Heidelberg District Taxi Association rolled out a pre-festive season road safety operation, focusing on commuter well-being, vehicle inspections and driver breathalyser testing.
The Heidelberg District Taxi Association (HDTA) kicked off its pre-festive season road and safety operation on November 17.
The campaign has a strong emphasis on commuter care, safety and comfort as residents prepare for the holiday period. It focused on reinforcing taxis as safe, reliable and trusted modes of public transport.
HDTA officials inspected vehicles for roadworthiness and to ensure compliance with safety standards. Drivers underwent breathalyser testing as part of the HDTA’s efforts to curb drinking and driving ahead of the festive rush.
Despite the cold and rainy conditions, HDTA chairperson and committee members were hands-on at taxi ranks, offering assistance to passengers.
Using umbrellas, they shielded commuters from the rain to ensure they were comfortable while waiting for their taxis.

HDTA chairperson Tshepo Molaba said the initiative reflects the association’s commitment to commuters.
“Safety is not just a festive season concern for us; it is our daily commitment. These operations allow us to actively monitor the well-being of our drivers and passengers, and to maintain the highest standard of service our community deserves. By personally engaging with commuters and assisting them even in difficult weather, we want to demonstrate that their comfort, dignity, and security come first,” he said.
Molaba added that the association urges commuters to be vigilant and contact its offices to report any concerns.
“We encourage all passengers to report reckless driving, mistreatment or behaviour that compromises their safety so that we can take swift action and ensure every journey is reliable and respected,” he said.
