New opportunities as Heidelberg Hockey Club gears up for 2026

The Heidelberg Hockey Club invites players to join its 2026 season. The team focuses on skill development, teamwork, and creating a fun, supportive environment.

After a successful debut year that generated strong interest from the community, the Heidelberg Hockey Club invites players of all ages and abilities to join the new season.

Based at the Heidelberg Union Grounds on Viljoen Street, the club trains on the blue astro courts, offering a structured and welcoming environment for competitive and social players. Since its establishment last year by Daan Marx, Karin Marx and Rowleen Welsh, the club has laid a solid foundation for long-term growth.

Club chairperson Welsh said they were thrilled with the response from the community.

“Our aim has always been to create a space where players can come together to learn, enjoy and develop their love for hockey. In 2026, we will introduce a girls’ team into league competition, which, we believe, will open more opportunities for young female players in the area. At the same time, we want to provide a supportive and fun environment for junior and adult players, whether new to the sport or playing for years.

Janette Swart, Xavier Muller, Karin Marx, Daan Marx, Sue-Mari Cilliers, Sherani van Heerden, and Rowleen Welsh.

“Our training sessions focus on skills development, match techniques, teamwork, sportsmanship and building confidence on and off the field,” she said.

Welsh added that the 2026 season promises to be one of growth.

“The club plans additional teams for the men and the juniors in 2027. For those preferring a more relaxed approach, a friendly division allows them to enjoy the game socially without league pressure.

“Training sessions are on Mondays and Wednesdays from 17:15 to 18:30 for players aged six and older.
“With strong momentum and ambitious plans, we call on the community to get involved and help grow the club,” she said.

Interested players can book a free trial session by contacting Welsh via WhatsApp on 065 374 2882 or by emailing heidelberghockeyclub@gmail.com
