Divine Connection NPO celebrates 72 electrical house wiring graduates in Alra Park

Seventy-two young people from Duduza and Jameson Park graduated in Alra Park after competing an electrical engineering house wiring skills programme funded by the Mining Qualification Authority.

Divine Connection NPO hosted a graduation ceremony on February 12 in Alra Park for learners who completed the electrical engineering house wiring skills programme, funded by the Mining Qualifications Authority under its unemployed youth development programme.

The initiative equipped unemployed youth from Duduza and Jameson Park with practical and theoretical electrical installation skills aligned with nationally recognised standards, improving their prospects for employment and entrepreneurship in the construction sector.

Of the 75 learners enrolled at the start of the programme, 72 completed the course.

Project manager, Hloni Skosana, commended the graduates for their perseverance and commitment.

“This programme represents opportunity, empowerment and a second chance to many young people. We are proud of the 72 graduates who remained focused and completed the programme.”

Their achievement shows what is possible when communities invest in skills development and give the youth the right support to succeed,” he said.

One graduate, Ofentse Edith Molaodi, said she discovered the opportunity through a community group chat.

“I applied and studied for the full three months. It helped that we received a stipend during that period.

“We gained both theoretical knowledge and practical skills, and the NPO placed us for in-service training at a local resource centre, where we experienced working as semi-skilled electricians. This internship helped us improve our CVs and gave us the practical experience we needed to access job opportunities,” she said.

Another graduate, Lindiwe Audry Ngcobo, said the programme had a life-changing impact.

“I have gained valuable experience through this short skills programme in electrical house wiring. I now understand two-phase and three-phase wiring, and I can identify and fix faults. The knowledge I have gained allows me to repair appliances at home, such as kettles, stoves, and irons.

“This course has boosted our community by showing us that a short programme with proper practical experience can create opportunities. Divine Connection has set a high standard and given us the key to unlocking our future in the electrical industry,” she said.
