Ratanda youth empowerment leader nominated for Emerge Africa Awards
Ratanda changemaker Pretty Kekana, founder of MoTsha Change in Motion, has been nominated in the Leadership category at the prestigious Emerge Africa Awards
Ratanda changemaker Pretty Kekana is making headlines across Africa after being nominated in the Leadership category at the prestigious Emerge Africa Awards.
The recognition celebrates her work empowering young people through her organisation, MoTsha Change in Motion.
Kekana said the organisation was established to address social challenges in her community. She said the nomination reflects the resilience and potential of Ratanda’s youth.
“MoTsha Change in Motion was born from a desire to give back to Ratanda. Growing up here, I saw young people full of talent and ambition, but many faced obstacles, including limited access to education, mentorship, and basic resources. Our programmes aim to provide guidance, support, and opportunities, so that every young person can realise their potential,” she said.
Kenakana said that she is humbled by the nomination.
“I’m grateful for the nomination, and it shines a light on the community that shaped me and the young people whose lives we are trying to change every day. Our initiatives include a sanitary dignity project tackling period poverty, mental health awareness workshops, mentorship sessions, and leadership development programmes.
These interventions are already producing tangible results, from improved school attendance to boosted confidence among participants,” she said.
Kekana added that she would also like to establish a youth innovation hub in Ratanda.
“We want to have an innovation hub offering digital labs, mentorship rooms, career guidance services, and corporate partnerships to unlock bursaries and internships. I am a servant-leader, guided by integrity, family, and purpose. I believe the recognition at the Emerge Africa Awards highlights the potential of grassroots leadership beyond metropolitan centres,” she said.
