6 people killed in 2 horror crashes on Heidelberg roads
Six people lost their lives in two separate accidents on March 8, including a head-on collision on the R42 that claimed five lives and another crash at the R23 and Louw Street intersection.
Six people lost their lives in two separate road accidents in and around Heidelberg on March 8.
The first crash occurred on the R42 Meyerton/Vereeniging Road, between the turn-off to Sedaven and the The Ranch venue.
A light motor vehicle and a sport utility vehicle collided head-on, and five people were declared dead at the scene.
In a second incident, a light motor vehicle and a truck collided at the intersection of R23 and Louw Streets in Heidelberg.
One occupant of the car was declared dead at the scene, while two others sustained serious injuries and were transported to a local hospital for further medical treatment.
Authorities confirmed that the scene is still under investigation and have urged motorists to use alternative routes while emergency services continue their work.
Several emergency and support services responded to the incidents, including GPG Medical Services, Heidelberg Volunteer Medics and First Responders, Lesedi Fire and Rescue, Lesedi Traffic, Heidelberg SAPS, Silver Security Group, Crime Stop Heidelberg and members of AfriForum Heidelberg.
Emergency responders have extended their condolences to the families and friends of the victims and reminded motorists to drive carefully, avoid unnecessary risks and respect other road users at all times.
