Motorists warned after robberies reported on N3 near Klipriver bridge
Motorists travelling on the N3 towards Johannesburg have been warned to remain vigilant after reports of criminals placing objects on the road near the Klipriver bridge to ambush and rob drivers.
Motorists travelling on the N3 towards Johannesburg have been urged to remain vigilant following reports of robberies targeting drivers near the Klipriver bridge.
According to reports received by the Heidelberg SAPS, criminals are allegedly placing objects on the road in an attempt to force motorists to slow down or stop.
Once vehicles stop, suspects reportedly approach the drivers and rob them.
There have also been reports of shooting incidents linked to these attacks.
Police are advising motorists to exercise extreme caution when travelling along this stretch of the N3, particularly during early morning and evening hours. Motorists are urged to keep their vehicle doors locked and windows closed while driving and to maintain a safe distance from other vehicles.
Drivers are also advised not to stop if they encounter objects on the road, but instead report the hazard immediately to the police.
In previous incidents along the N3 between Heidelberg and the surrounding areas, criminals have carried out hijackings and robberies by stopping unsuspecting drivers on the freeway.
Authorities have urged anyone who notices suspicious activity along the N3 to report it immediately by calling 10111 or contacting the Heidelberg police station on 016 499 5903.
