School sports officials, coaches, and football stakeholders gathered at Shalimar Ridge Primary School on May 18 to finalise preparations for the upcoming District Winter Games and discuss football development initiatives in the Lesedi area.
Preparations for the upcoming District Winter Games took centre stage during a Sedibeng Schools Sports meeting held at Shalimar Ridge Primary School on May 18.
The meeting brought together school sports stakeholders, coaches, and football officials to discuss arrangements for the winter games, scheduled for May 30 for U11 and U15 teams.
The meeting was attended by Velaphi Motsepe, chairperson of the Lesedi Local Football Association, who addressed the audience on matters related to referees, coaching development, and football regulations.
Motsepe also highlighted the importance of training opportunities for coaches, including the D Licence coaching qualification.
Officials also confirmed that player selections will be held on May 20, during Sports Day at Khanya Lesedi School of Sports.
The selection process is expected to identify talented young players who will represent the district during the tournament. Heidelberg School Football Cluster chairperson Thulane Gama said the gathering was important in ensuring the continued growth of school football within the region.

“We are committed to creating opportunities for learners to develop their sporting abilities while also ensuring that coaches and referees receive the necessary training and support. The District winter games will provide a platform for young players to showcase their talent, discipline, and passion for football,” he said.
Stakeholders also described the meeting as productive and informative, with a strong focus on improving football development and strengthening school sport structures in the Lesedi area. The next meeting is scheduled for June 18 at 14:00 at Sakhile Primary School.
