Rand Water maintenance to cause supply interruptions across Lesedi
Residents and businesses in Lesedi have been urged to prepare for planned water supply disruptions as Rand Water undertakes major infrastructure maintenance between May and July.
Residents and businesses in Lesedi are being urged to prepare for possible water supply disruptions as Rand Water embarks on planned infrastructure maintenance between May and July.
The announcement was made in a public notice issued by Lesedi Local Municipality on May 25, outlining scheduled maintenance work aimed at improving the reliability and availability of the water supply system.
According to the notice, the maintenance programme will affect the Mapleton system and the surrounding supply networks linked to Zuikerbosch.
The first phase of the maintenance is scheduled for May 29 and will involve Eskom maintenance work at Zuikerbosch.
The operation is expected to last 12 hours and will result in a 67% reduction in water supply to Mapleton, amounting to approximately 560 megalitres per day.
A second, more extensive maintenance operation is planned for July 17 and is expected to last 60 hours.
During the first 12 hours, Mapleton will reportedly experience no pumping capacity. For the remaining 48 hours, the area is expected to face a complete interruption of the water supply.
The municipality further warned that Selcourt Reservoir would receive no supply during the maintenance period, while pumping operations at Bloemendal would also be affected.
Lesedi Local Municipality said the maintenance work forms part of Rand Water’s efforts to strengthen infrastructure performance and ensure long-term system reliability.
Residents have been encouraged to use water sparingly and make the necessary preparations ahead of the planned shutdowns to minimise inconvenience.
The municipality indicated that further updates and possible contingency measures would be communicated to affected communities as the maintenance dates approach.
