Residents left frustrated as Heidelberg Clinic closure continues amid water and electricity outages
Residents who depend on Heidelberg Public Clinic for medication, consultations, and essential healthcare services have expressed concern after the facility remained closed on June 4 due to ongoing water and electricity disruptions. Community members are calling for urgent intervention and clear communication from authorities.
Residents have voiced growing concern after Heidelberg Public Clinic remained closed on June 4 and continued to be inaccessible to patients due to ongoing utility disruptions.
According to reports, the clinic has been without electricity and water, forcing the suspension of healthcare services and leaving many patients uncertain about where to seek medical assistance.
Several residents who arrived at the facility were reportedly turned away as staff were unable to operate under the current conditions.
The closure has sparked frustration among community members, many of whom rely on the clinic for primary healthcare services, medication collection, and routine medical consultations.
Maria Mokoena (58), who visited the clinic to collect chronic medication, said she was disappointed to find the facility closed.
“I came early in the morning because I needed my medication, only to find that the clinic was not operating. Many of us depend on these services and do not have money for transport to travel to other healthcare facilities. We hope the problem can be resolved as soon as possible,” she said.
Thabo Jikintetho (42) expressed concern about the impact on vulnerable patients.
“There are elderly people, children, and sick residents who depend on this clinic every day. When the clinic closes unexpectedly, it creates a difficult situation for the community. We need clear communication about what is happening and where people can get help,” he said.
Nomsa Sibisi (35) said the closure highlighted the importance of reliable basic services.
“Healthcare facilities should always have access to essential services such as water and electricity. We understand that challenges happen, but residents need assurance that the matter is being addressed urgently,” she said.
The cause of the utility disruptions has not yet been officially confirmed, and it remains unclear when normal operations at the clinic will resume. Residents are calling on the relevant authorities to provide updates on the situation and to ensure that alternative healthcare arrangements are available while the clinic remains closed.
