Nigel SPCA calls on residents to join Management Committee

The Nigel SPCA is appealing for volunteers to join its management committee as it works to strengthen animal welfare services and ensure the organization's long-term sustainability.

The Nigel SPCA has launched an appeal for dedicated community members to join its management committee and help ensure the continued protection and welfare of animals in the area.

The organisation, which has served the community for many years, is seeking volunteers willing to contribute their skills, expertise and time to support its operations and long-term sustainability.

In a recent statement, the SPCA highlighted the important role it plays in preventing cruelty to animals, investigating welfare concerns and educating the public on responsible animal care.

Like all SPCAs in South Africa, the Nigel branch operates as an independent non-profit organisation and receives no direct financial support from the government.

Any funding received from municipalities is payment for services rendered, such as handling stray animals or assisting with by-law enforcement.

The organisation warned that a lack of community involvement remains one of the biggest threats to the survival of SPCAs nationwide.

According to the statement, many SPCAs that have closed over the past two decades did so because of insufficient local support rather than a lack of need for their services.

To remain effective, the Nigel SPCA relies on an elected management committee made up of local residents who oversee governance, financial management, fundraising initiatives and strategic planning.

The SPCA said that while fundraising efforts are always appreciated, maintaining a successful animal welfare organisation requires sustained involvement from committed individuals who are willing to assist in guiding the organisation’s future.

Residents with a passion for animal welfare are encouraged to get involved and explore the various roles available within the committee.
