Rensburg residents warned after suspected dog poisoning incident

A beloved family pet died after an alleged poisoning incident in Rensburg on June 19, prompting renewed calls for residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activity.

Residents have been urged to remain vigilant following a suspected dog-poisoning incident in Rensburg during the early hours of June 19.

According to information released by Rensburg Forum Management, a resident reported that one of their dogs was allegedly poisoned at approximately 02:30.

The resident was awakened by barking dogs and went outside to investigate.

Upon checking the property, the resident reportedly noticed individuals running away from the premises.

An attempt was made to save the dog, but unfortunately, the animal succumbed before assistance could be rendered.

Photographs shared with the community show suspicious substances attached to fencing on the property, which are believed to have been used in the poisoning.

The incident has raised concerns among residents, particularly as dog poisonings are often linked to criminal activity, with perpetrators targeting properties before committing burglaries or other offences.

Rensburg Forum Management has called on residents to take precautionary measures to protect their pets and properties.

Community members are encouraged to inspect their yards regularly, monitor their animals closely and remain alert to any unusual activity, especially during the night and early morning hours.

Residents are also urged to report any suspicious behaviour or the discovery of suspected poisoned bait to the relevant authorities and community safety structures without delay.

The forum described the incident as a cruel act and called on the community to work together to prevent similar occurrences.
