The Skoon Heidelberg volunteers are continuing their decade-long mission to keep the town clean, with their latest clean-up effort taking place on July 16 at Frazer Street near the low-water bridge.

The volunteers targeted an area that has become a concern because recyclers dump black bags of recyclables and often leave the remaining waste behind.

The community initiative has been running for more than 10 years, with residents dedicating their time every Thursday morning from 08:00 to 09:00 to remove litter from public spaces and improve the appearance of Heidelberg.

Over the years, Skoon Heidelberg has demonstrated the impact of consistent community involvement, encouraging residents to take responsibility for the environment and the appearance of their town.

One of the volunteers, Charlotte Cloete, said the initiative depends on residents working together to create a cleaner Heidelberg.

“Keeping Heidelberg clean is not the responsibility of a few people; it is something that belongs to all of us. For more than 10 years, we have seen how small actions can create a big difference.

“We encourage residents to join us, because every person who gives an hour of their time helps us build a cleaner and healthier community for everyone. If residents put plastic bottles in a separate bag, recyclers can collect them easily without having to open black bags and leave rubbish scattered around. It is a simple step that can help keep our streets cleaner,” she said.

Skoon Heidelberg invites more residents to participate in the weekly clean-up campaign, held every Thursday morning from 08:00 to 09:00.
