Lesedi Aerobics Movement’s first Mandela Day Bootcamp draws overwhelming community support

After being postponed three times, the Lesedi Aerobics Movement's inaugural Mandela Day Bootcamp fundraiser exceeded expectations as residents of all ages gathered at Ratanda Old Hall to promote healthy living, community unity and Mandela Day spirit.

The Lesedi Aerobics Movement celebrated a successful first annual Mandela Day Bootcamp Fundraiser at Ratanda Old Hall on July 18.

The event formed part of the organisation’s Mandela Day celebrations and aimed to promote healthy living while raising funds to support future community initiatives.

Participants took part in a variety of aerobics and bootcamp sessions led by experienced instructors in an atmosphere filled with enthusiasm, encouragement and unity.

One of the organisers and fitness instructors, Modise Mekoa, said the success of the inaugural event proved that the community was eager to embrace initiatives that promote health and wellbeing.

“Although we had to postpone the event three times because of circumstances beyond our control, we never lost hope. We remained committed to our vision of bringing the community together through fitness, and seeing the turnout on the day made every challenge worthwhile.

“The event met our expectations and even surpassed them in many respects. We were overwhelmed by the support we received from residents, and it was truly inspiring to see children, young people, adults and senior citizens participating side by side. That kind of response showed us that our message about living a healthier lifestyle is reaching people and making a positive impact,” he said.

Mekoa said the enthusiasm shown by participants throughout the morning was one of the biggest highlights of the event.

“One of the most rewarding moments was watching the energy and excitement from everyone who attended. The smiles, determination and willingness to take part in every activity reminded us why we started the Lesedi Aerobics Movement. We hope this event has inspired participants to make healthier choices every day, not just on Mandela Day.

“Exercise is not only about staying fit physically, it also improves mental wellbeing, reduces stress and brings communities together. We want people to know that fitness is for everyone, regardless of age or ability,” he said.

Mekoa also encouraged residents to continue their fitness journeys by joining the movement’s free weekly sessions.

“Our Mandela Day Bootcamp may be over, but our mission continues every week. We invite everyone in the community to join our free aerobics sessions at Ratanda Old Hall every week from 16:30 to 17:30.

“Whether you are taking your first step towards a healthier lifestyle or have been exercising for years, you are welcome. Together we can continue building a healthier, stronger and more united community, one workout at a time,” he said.
