New Heidelberg SPCA committee pledges to be a voice for animals
The Heidelberg SPCA has introduced its newly elected management committee, with chairperson Petro Coetsee pledging to continue advocating for vulnerable animals while thanking the Heidelberg community for its ongoing generosity, compassion and support that keeps the organisation's vital work alive.
A newly elected management committee has taken the reins at the Heidelberg SPCA, pledging to build on the organisation’s long-standing commitment to protecting vulnerable animals while thanking the community for its unwavering support.
The committee was elected at the Heidelberg SPCA’s Annual General Meeting on July 11 and comprises a team of dedicated volunteers who will oversee the organisation’s operations and continue its mission to care for abused, abandoned, neglected and stray animals.
The new committee is led by Petro Coetsee as chairperson, with Lynette de Villiers serving as vice-chairperson.
Other members include Jackie Franck as secretary, Donna Gertenbach as treasurer, and committee members Corné Oberholzer and Zanie Le Grange. Despite balancing full-time careers, the committee members volunteer their time and expertise to ensure animals in need receive shelter, veterinary care, rehabilitation and the opportunity to find loving homes forever.
Coetsee said the organisation’s work would not be possible without the continued support of the Heidelberg community.
“On behalf of the management committee of Heidelberg SPCA, we would like to express our sincere gratitude to the incredible Heidelberg community for your unwavering support of our society.
“Time and again, you have shown that our community has a heart for the vulnerable animals in our care. Your kindness, compassion and generosity make it possible for us to continue our work.
“Whether times are good or challenging, the community always stands by us, and we are truly grateful. As a committee of dedicated volunteers, we remain committed and motivated to be the voice for those who cannot speak for themselves. Together we are making a real difference in the lives of countless animals,” she said.
The Heidelberg SPCA said that operating an animal welfare organisation requires ongoing financial and community support, and encouraged residents to contribute by donating dry or wet dog and cat food, puppy and kitten food, blankets, bedding, toys, and enrichment items.
Monetary donations are also welcomed to help cover veterinary expenses, feeding costs and the day-to-day running of the shelter.
