The Beauty of Youth Choir celebrated music, culture, and youth development at its annual Beauty of Youth Choir Concert, held at the Ext 23 Multi-Purpose Hall in Ratanda on 18 July.

Held in celebration of Mandela Day, the event attracted music lovers from Ratanda and surrounding communities, who enjoyed an afternoon of powerful choral music, traditional dance and inspiring performances.

The concert featured performances by the host choir alongside guest choirs Azania Indigenous Voices, Lesedi Show Choir, and United Voices of Christ, all of whom received warm applause from the audience.

The concert formed part of the choir’s ongoing mission to promote arts and culture while creating opportunities for young people to develop their talents.

The Beauty of Youth Choir Director, Mpho Nyambose, said the organisation was founded in 2019 out of a passion for music and a desire to make a meaningful difference in the lives of young people.

“The choir was founded in 2019 because I believe music is more than a passion; it is my calling. The organisation is registered as a non-profit organisation with the Department of Social Development, and our vision is to develop arts and culture while creating opportunities for young people to grow through music, leadership and community development. We want to empower young people to believe in themselves and use their talents to positively influence society, “he said.

Nyambose said that the annual concert has become one of the organisation’s flagship events and continues to grow.

“The Beauty of Youth Choir concert is an annual event, and every year we strive to improve it. This year’s concert demonstrated just how much we have grown and reaffirmed our commitment to developing music and the arts.

“We deliberately invited outstanding choirs from different areas because we wanted to expose our township to diverse choral experiences.

“Although the concert also served as a fundraising initiative, it is never easy for community organisations to secure funding and sponsorship.

“This was undoubtedly one of the biggest events we have organised since the choir was established.
“The response from the audience exceeded our expectations, with many people encouraging us to host more concerts. That gives us confidence because it shows we are making a positive impact in our community.

“While we did not raise as much funding as we had hoped, the success of the event itself was far more valuable. We are grateful for everyone’s support, and it motivates us to continue improving,” he said.

Nyambose added that supporters can expect an exciting programme of events in 2027.

“We are already planning next year’s activities and hope to finalise our calendar by the end of August. The Beauty of Youth Choir Concert will definitely return in 2027, as demand from the community has been overwhelming.

“We wanted to host another concert this year, but financial constraints made that impossible. Planning early will allow us to deliver an even bigger and better event next year. We are also working on launching our official website, and we encourage everyone to follow our social media platforms for updates on our concerts, projects, music and community development initiatives,” he said.
