Former Nigel resident and professional guitarist Timothy James Lotter is flying the South African and African flags high as he competes at the Wacken Metal Battle World Finals, hosted during the internationally acclaimed Wacken Open Air festival in Germany.
The annual event is regarded as one of the world’s largest and most prestigious heavy metal festivals, attracting thousands of music fans and showcasing emerging metal bands from across the globe.
Lotter, an experienced session musician, has established himself in South Africa’s music industry through performances with well-known artists, including Kurt Darren, Zaan Sonnekus and Dodo. He is also the guitarist for the progressive metal band Human Nebula.

Human Nebula secured its place in the world finals after winning the South African leg of the Wacken Metal Battle competition earlier this year.
The victory earned the band the honour of representing not only South Africa but the African continent against leading metal acts from around the world.
For Lotter, the achievement marks the culmination of years of dedication, discipline and commitment to his craft.
His journey from Nigel to one of the world’s biggest music stages highlights the calibre of talent emerging from local communities and demonstrates that South African musicians can compete on the international stage.

In addition to the live performances, the competition includes a public fan vote.
Although the overall winner is selected by an international panel of judges, the fan vote offers participating bands additional global exposure and gives supporters an opportunity to show their support.
Members of the public who wish to support Human Nebula can cast their vote through the official Wacken Metal Battle online voting platform during the designated voting periods, with one vote permitted per person.
