Ratanda Grade 12 learners motivated to work hard and become future leaders
Grade 12 learners at Ratanda Secondary School were urged to remain focused on their studies, embrace leadership opportunities and work hard to build a better future during a motivational session held alongside their History Paper 2 examination.
Grade 12 learners at Ratanda Secondary School were encouraged to remain focused on their studies and prepare themselves for future leadership roles during their History Paper 2 examination on August 14.
The motivation session was facilitated by Walter Mazibuko, who emphasised the importance of investing in young people and creating opportunities that can help them overcome poverty, unemployment and inequality.
“Education is the key to success, and we have to secure the future by investing in our young people today. The youth are tomorrow’s leaders, and we need to create opportunities that will enable them to succeed in adulthood and break the cycle of dependency, poverty, unemployment and inequality.
“We have a responsibility to guide our learners and help them develop into leaders who can make a meaningful contribution to society,” he said.
The learners were also assisted with the PEEL method of essay writing as they prepared for History Paper 2 topics, including the Black Consciousness Movement of the 1960s and 1970s and the Road to Democracy between 1990 and 1994.

Mazibuko encouraged learners to participate in extracurricular activities such as sports and debating, as well as structures such as Representative Councils of Learners and School Governing Bodies.
“These activities help young people develop confidence, discipline, leadership and communication skills. Education is not only about passing examinations; it is also about preparing yourself for life and becoming a responsible member of society.
Hard work breeds success. Learners must remain disciplined, manage their study time and find a healthy balance between their schoolwork and leisure. If they remain focused and committed, they can pass Grade 12 with flying colours,” he said.
Also invited to motivate the learners was Bouwe Wiersma, a practising lawyer from Heidelberg, who encouraged them to believe in themselves and remain focused on their goals.
“Education opens doors, but success requires hard work, discipline and determination. I encouraged the learners to believe in themselves, stay focused and make the most of every opportunity. I am grateful for the invitation to motivate these young people and to play a small role in inspiring the leaders of tomorrow,” he said.
