Community called to donate for Lesedi gala
Lesedi Community Centre is appealing for pre-loved evening wear, suits and beauty products ahead of its annual gala celebrating residents’ achievements.
Lesedi Community Centre will celebrate the resilience and achievements of people who have overcome homelessness at its upcoming annual gala evening, themed ‘From Homeless to Victorious’.
The event, held in conjunction with World Homelessness Day in October, will provide an opportunity to recognise residents who have made significant progress in rebuilding their lives.
According to the centre, the event will focus on personal milestones achieved during journeys towards stability and independence.
These include recovery from substance abuse, emotional healing and personal growth, securing employment, workplace achievements, skills development and education, reconnecting with family members and transitioning towards independent living.
The centre said these achievements represent important steps for people who have faced homelessness and are working to establish more stable futures.
To help residents prepare for the gala, Lesedi Community Centre is appealing to members of the community for donations of pre-loved evening wear for women, suits and formal clothing for men, as well as make-up and beauty products.
Organisers said the donations would help residents attend the event feeling confident and dignified while celebrating how far they have come.
For some residents, the gala will be their first opportunity to attend a formal event where their personal achievements are publicly recognised.
The centre is encouraging individuals, businesses, workplaces, churches, community organisations and other groups to support the initiative by donating suitable clothing and beauty items or sharing the appeal within their networks.
