Lesedi Local Municipality and Rand Water agree on intervention to strengthen water supply
A high-level meeting between municipal leadership and water executives addresses recurring supply interruptions affecting residents and local businesses.
Lesedi Local Municipality and Rand Water have agreed on an intervention to improve water supply and provide relief to communities affected by recurring interruptions.
The agreement followed a high-level meeting on September 4 between the municipality and senior representatives of Rand Water.
Municipal manager Sbusiso Dlamini, accompanied by senior municipal officials, met with Rand Water chief executive officer Sipho Mosai, the organisation’s chief operating officer and other senior representatives to discuss the ongoing water supply challenges affecting communities across Lesedi.
The meeting formed part of the municipality’s continued efforts to seek urgent interventions and practical solutions to challenges placing significant pressure on its water supply system.
According to the municipality, the engagement resulted in the parties agreeing on an intervention aimed at improving water supply to Lesedi and providing much-needed relief to residents and businesses that have experienced water interruptions.
Officials said the intervention marks an important step towards stabilising the water supply system while Lesedi and Rand Water continue working together to find sustainable, long-term solutions.
Lesedi welcomed the constructive engagement with Rand Water and said strengthened cooperation between the two institutions would be critical in addressing the challenges affecting the municipality’s water infrastructure and supply.
Dlamini reiterated the municipality’s commitment to pursuing solutions at every level and ensuring that water challenges affecting communities receive the urgent attention they require.
While the intervention is not expected to provide a permanent solution to Lesedi’s water challenges, it is hoped that it will improve the current situation as work continues on longer-term interventions.
The municipality said it would closely monitor developments and provide further details regarding the implementation of the intervention and its impact on the water supply system.
