Heidelberg Hospital joins Gauteng campaign against violence against women

Heidelberg Hospital staff joined a Wellness Wednesday awareness campaign on Wednesday, September 16, honouring women who lost their lives to violence and calling for safer communities.

Heidelberg Hospital joined other health facilities across Gauteng in a joint awareness campaign on September 16 in honour of the late Elizabeth “Tsontso” Moselakgomo and other women who have recently lost their lives in violent killings.

The campaign formed part of the hospital’s Wellness Wednesday activities, which combined remembrance, awareness and physical exercise to highlight the need for communities to stand together against violence against women. Staff and participants observed a moment of silence in honour of the victims before taking part in various physical activities, including running and aerobics.

Among the participants was Nkhensani Mathebula, who completed a three-kilometre run as part of the initiative.

The activities provided an opportunity for Heidelberg Hospital staff to show solidarity with women affected by violence while encouraging healthier and safer lifestyles.

The hospital joined sister health facilities in Gauteng in using the initiative to raise awareness about the ongoing need to protect women and promote safer communities.

Community members were encouraged to consider exercising in groups, particularly when walking or running outdoors, and to keep family members and friends informed of their whereabouts.
