Fatal R550 crash near Glenroy silos leaves one dead and another seriously injured

Emergency services were dispatched to the scene shortly after the crash.
One of the occupants was trapped inside a vehicle and sustained serious injuries. Rescue personnel worked to free the patient, who was stabilised at the scene before being airlifted by a Netcare911 helicopter to a trauma facility for further medical treatment.
A second person was declared dead at the scene. Rescue teams later extricated the deceased from the wreckage.
The crash closed the R550 for several hours while emergency personnel carried out rescue and recovery operations.
Responders included Lesedi Fire and Rescue, Gauteng Provincial Government Emergency Medical Services, Netcare911, Heidelberg SAPS, Lesedi Traffic and Burgerlike Beskerming Nigel.
After the rescue operation, volunteer patrollers helped clear and clean the roadway. The SAPS subsequently took over the scene for further investigation.
The circumstances leading to the collision remain unclear, and SAPS will investigate the cause.
