Residents of informal settlements around Msukaligwa Municipality together with the South African Communist Party (SACP) and the Middle Class Earners Committee held a peaceful march last Friday.
They walked from the Mpumalanga Stadium to the Gert Sibande District Municipality (GSDM) to hand over a memorandum concerning, among others, the controversial Ext 7.
The march comes after the recent Middle Class Earners protest at the Msukaligwa municipal offices where residents in the middle class bracket demanded land.

Residents of Ethembeni, Enyibe, Bhubesini, Nkanini and Jikileza demanded the following:
• Providing land by July next year.
• Outsourcing to make way for local cooperatives and urged their municipalities to use them and emerging farmers.
• Reviewing of the tender system, most importantly, that it be minimised to make way for Community Public Works projects.
• Investigation of corruption in all municipalities.
The memorandum was also forwarded to all banks in the banking sector as well as AgriSA.
The SACP has given the district 14 days to respond or they will lead a mass march across the district.
