Chief Albert Luthuli Municipality honours its employees at municipal awards in Badplaas
As of the past month, September, the municipality had already spent 20 per cent of the MIG and is also one of the municipalities with a credible and approved budget, which puts it in a good financial position as it can now cash back on its grants.
The Chief Albert Luthuli Local Municipality (CALM) has taken the lead in Mpumalanga with the spending of the Municipal Infrastructure Grant (MIG).
This was revealed during the CALM Municipal Employees Recognition Awards ceremony at the eManzana Cultural Centre in Badplaas on Friday, 12 October.
As of September, the municipality had already spent 20 per cent of the MIG and is also one of the municipalities with a credible and approved budget, which puts it in a good financial position as it can now cash back on its grants.
The Executive Mayor of Gert Sibande District Municipality (GSDM), Mr Muzi Chirwa, said CALM was a beacon of hope in the province.
“The MIG is one of the tools that the government uses to check if services are delivered to communities in an effective manner and this can only be achieved through good working relationships between the political leadership and administration,” Mr Chirwa said.
He also called on the officials not just to deliver services, but serve with high quality and standard.
The Executive Mayor of CALM, Mr Dan Nkosi, called on the municipal employees to be role models in the communities where they render services.
“As we go out and deliver services to our communities, we must make sure that we do so by upholding our vision and mission of the municipality,” Mr Nkosi said.
The Municipal Manager, Mr Mandla Dlamini, said the awards were meant to honour all employees who dedicate their time in the service of the people of Chief Albert Luthuli Local Municipality.
Categories included most diligent employee, inspired leadership, outstanding performance in the key performance areas, extraordinary service and an employee with exceptional interpersonal skills.
