Gladness Jabu Majola appointed municipal manager of Msukaligwa Municipality

Ms Majola began her term on 1 November and takes over from acting municipal manager, Mr S.R. Magudulela, the director of technical services.

Msukaligwa Municipality has a new municipal manager.

Ms Gladness Jabu Majola was appointed as the new MM at a special council meeting held on Friday, 26 October.

The appointment is in terms of Section 54A of the Municipal Systems Act 32 of 2000 as amended, on a four-year fixed term contract of employment which is performance-based, after meticulous selection processes by Msukaligwa.

Ms Majola began her term on 1 November and takes over from the acting municipal manager, Mr S.R. Magudulela, Director of Technical Services.

The new municipal manager comes with vast work experience in senior positions.

Ms Majola matriculated at the eQakwini High School in 1988 and has a Bachelor of Law degree which she obtained from the University of Zululand in 1995.

She further enrolled for additional courses as part of sharpening her knowledge in labour law and obtained an Advanced Certificate as well as a Certificate in Executive Municipal Management and Leadership.

Ms Majola also did short courses in Project Management, Municipal Service Partnership and Supply Chain Management for Municipal Senior Managers and is currently finalising her BPA Honours in Public Administration at MANCOSA.

She has 16 years experience in senior management, of which seven are in local government.

“I have experience of working in all spheres of the government.

“I am a hard worker, a transformative leader, a development worker and a team player,” Ms Majola said.

She worked at the Department of Justice as clerk of co-interpreter for two years, a public prosecutor for five years, as well as a Magistrate (Criminal and Civil cases) for two years.

Ms Majola also worked as Provincial Manager for Government Communication and Information Systems (GCIS) in the Mpumalanga Province as well as Director of Governance and Education: Integrity Management in the Office of the Premier.

Before she joined Msukaligwa, she was a Deputy Director-General Corporate Services in the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development for seven years.

“The experience I have acquired over the years, made me to excel in intergovernmental relations and public participation which helped the municipalities I have managed to be trusted by its citizens for effective, efficient and improved service delivery.”

Ms Majola added that creating and instilling ethical organisational culture, starting from top management, is critical for an organisation to grow and produce the expected outcome, and at the same time gain confidence from its clients and stakeholders.”

The Executive Mayor of Msukaligwa, Mr Joseph Mkhaliphi, welcomed Ms Majola as Municipal Manager on behalf of the council.

“Msukaligwa Local Municipality believes that Ms Majola will take the municipality to higher levels with her impeccable knowledge and experience acquired in government and indeed Msukaligwa will be a beacon of service excellence,” Mr Mkhaliphi said.

Ms Majola will occupy the office of the Municipal Manager for the next four years.
