IEB 2021 matric results: TMC class of 2021 sets new records

The Class of 2021 raked in a record number of A aggregates as well as the number of subject distinctions.

THOMAS More College’s 118 learners, who wrote the IEB National Senior Certificate examinations, obtained a grade average aggregate of 73.2%.

“Our learners and staff have done incredibly well in this examination sitting, given the extraordinarily fluid circumstances we navigated in 2021. These results are also punctuated by new records for TMC,” said the school’s principal, Dave Wiggett.

The school’s top three include: Rachel Boulle with 92.9%, Tyla Christie with 92% and Chloë Kyle with 90.4%.

Rachels plans to study towards a Bachelor of Engineering: Computer Engineering at the University of Pretoria, while Tyla plans to study at the University of Cape Town towards a BSc in Occupational Therapy, and Chloë will pursue a Bachelor of Arts Degree, majoring in law and psychology at the University of Cape Town.

Wiggett noted that the school’s 73.2% aggregate speaks to the exemplary commitment and resilience of its staff and learners alike.

“The record number of A aggregates (40 learners), subject distinctions (average of 2.5 per learner), and 15/17 subjects performing above the national averages, the Class of 2021 and the TMC staff team have clearly manifested the potential of an inspired education in which every learner is treated as someone possessed of remarkable individual purpose and promise, of inestimable value,” he said.

Wiggett added that the moto ‘An Inspired Education’ is not marketing capering and ‘claptrappery’, but a dynamic, robust and tangible mission at the school.
