Kearsney’s top three pursue Stellenbosch University

This top achieving trio is in the top 5% in South Africa for more than five subjects.

KEARSNEY College’s top three Grade 12 learners, Ben Oellerman, Ben Robertson and Marnus Du Toit have all aimed for one of South Africa’s top universities, Stellenbosch Universities.

Top achieving learner, Ben Oellerman is in the top 5% of learners who wrote the IEB examinations in South Africa, in six or more subjects and in the top 1% in English and history and physical science.

He achieved 7As (average 93.1%), and plans to study actuarial science and was Dux at Kearsney for 2021.

Ben Oellerman’s final results: Afrikaans 93%, English 92%, history 94%, LO 93%, life science 88%, mathematics 95%, physical science 97%, AP mathematics 63%.

Also in the top 5% in South Africa is Ben Robertson, who took the second place position.

He is in the top 1% in engineering graphics and design, life orientation, mathematics, physical sciences. After learning about his results, Robertson was relieved.

“This is great and it’s proof that hard work pays off. I am also relieved that I wasn’t wasting my time, putting in the work,” he said.

Robertson, who will be studying civil engineering, said he drew his love for architecture from his grandfather, who was an architect.

Ben Robertson’s final results:  Afrikaans 85%, engineering graphics & design 100%, English 89%, history 88%, LO 95%, mathematics 98%, physical science 97%, AP mathematics 81%.

Top three learner, Marnus Du Toit, achieved 90.4% and seven As.

He is in the top 1% in mathematics and physical sciences and will be studying actuarial science.

“I chose to study actuarial science because I was good at maths and this field involves a lot of maths,” he said.

Du Toit’s advice to the Matric class of 2022 is, ‘Don’t leave anything to the last minute’.

Marnus Du Toit’s final results: accounting 93%, Afrikaans 92%, engineering graphics & design 97%, English 78%, LO 81%, mathematics 99%, physical science 93%, AP mathematics 85%.
