Independent Examinations Board matric results: St Mary’s achieves 100% pass rate

It is a happy moment for parents and teachers at St Mary's DSG Kloof as Independent Examinations Board (IEB) matric results have been released.

St Mary’s DSG Kloof celebrates their 100% pass rate. The school’s principal, Jonathan Manley, reported that 86% of these were bachelor degree level, and one was at a diploma level. The girls earned 264 distinctions between them, which is an average of 3,03 distinctions per pupil.

“The depth of their achievements is worth noting with 75% of all the results being above 70%. Of the final results, only 17 subject results were below 50%. Fourteen results feature in the top 1% in their subject in the country, and one student, Tracey Le Roux, features in the top 5% in six subjects.

“Given the many challenges this class faced over the last two and a half years, we salute their achievements and wish them well as they embark on their tertiary education. Although the matric year is often seen in isolation because of the results, it is a community of teachers and parents who work together to get them to this point,” he said.

The school said their individual subjects were above the national average by 7% on average. Many of their subjects were 9% or 10% above the national average. A new subject, which they wrote for the first time, Information Technology, produced excellent results with 75% of the class achieving distinctions.
