UKZN SRC launches 2026 Trust Fund fundraising campaign

UKZN’s SRC has launched its 2026 Trust Fund campaign to help students struggling to afford registration fees access higher education.

THE University of KwaZulu-Natal (UKZN) Student Representative Council (SRC) has announced the official launch of the 2026 SRC Trust Fund fundraising campaign.

The university said funds raised through this initiative will be directed to students who are unable to pay their registration fees in 2026.

“This campaign is an ongoing one and exists to ensure that no student is unable to study due to their financial circumstances.”

According to the university, a total of 2001 students applied for the SRC Trust Fund in 2025, 286 more than in 2024 and it can be expected that 2287 applications will be made this year.

The campaign aims to raise funds for students in need and “to promote community and stakeholder participation in supporting student access to education”.

The campaign targets students who are self-funded and are unable to cover their registration costs.

The donated funds are channelled through the UKZN Foundation and directed to the fee accounts of the approved applicants to fund their registration costs.

The institution called upon alumni, corporate partners, NGOs, philanthropic organisations, and the broader community to support the Trust Fund.

Contributions can be made through the UKZN Foundation website  https://foundation.ukzn.ac.za/ and once on the site, potential donors should select the SRC Trust Fund when selecting a project to donate to.

“Your contribution, no matter how small, will go a long way in ensuring every student has the tools they need to contribute meaningfully to our country.”

UKZN SRC treasurer General Lonwabo Xolo said: “Our commitment as an SRC to ensure that no student is left behind is overarched by the understanding that because we have the ability, the influence as well as the platform, we must by all means do all that is in our power to liberate students from the shackles that prevent them from completing their journeys at university, and with this campaign we are tackling financial exclusion as a barrier to education, head on.”
