The Thokoza SAPS has registered two murder dockets following the death of a security guard and a man believed to have been part of three armed men who robbed a cash-in-transit van in Thokoza recently.

According to Capt Mega Ndobe, the spokesperson for the SAPS’ Kathorus Cluster, the incident happened at a Standard Bank outlet at the U-Save Supermarket in Yende Street, Thokoza, where security personnel from a cash-in-transit company were about to load cash into ATMs.

“The guard suddenly found he was under attack and fired shots at the armed men and in the ensuing chaos, he was shot as the three men fled the scene with the cash-box. The guard died a few minutes later from his wounds,” said Capt Ndobe.

When the police combined the scene several minutes later, they found a trail of bloodstains which led them the dead body of one of the robbers, who was slumped on the floor about 20 meters from a 9mm pistol, which the police believe was used by the robbers during the robbery.

No arrests were made at the time of going to press and the police have asked members of the public to forward any information they may have about the incident to the nearest police station.
