“Upon receiving training, our models are ready to audition and register with any agency of their choice to advance their modelling career.”
Thick Goddess Modelling Academy is inviting plus-size female models for auditions at the Vosloorus Stadium Hall on January 29.
The academy grooms and provides training not only for models but also creatives, including fashion designers and photographers.
Vosloorus-based media specialist Nelly Nkosi (35) and Tricia Marumo (32) established the academy in 2019.
According to Nkosi, they are a training academy and skills development organisation for aspiring plus-size models.
“Upon receiving training, our models are ready to audition and register with any agency of their choice to advance their modelling career,” said Nkosi.

She said they noticed how difficult it was to get access to the modelling industry when one cannot afford to register with an agency.
It is for this reason that we decided to set up an organisation to train aspiring models to seek their own modelling opportunities,” she said.
Nkosi added that by receiving this training, their trainees would no longer need an agency to provide them with basic training.
“We plan to continue making a difference for women and children in the township by boosting their confidence through the promotion of self-love,” she noted.
The academy intends to do roadshows around various townships in SA and compete with big players in the industry by being accredited with SETA and collaborate with gyms to promote the health of plus-size models.
“At the moment, we host workshops, boot camps, fashion shows, rehearsals, aerobics and hiking trips for community members,” Nkosi explained.
The organisation is self-funded and offers low-tuition prices to afford the community access to skills development including those affected by unemployment.

Nkosi and Marumo are looking for sponsors to fund the academy so they can continue changing people’s lives in the township.
