WATCH: Palm Ridge Primary empowers young minds

With support from Girl Guides SA (Gauteng East), the school management team (SMT), the School Governing Body (SGB), parents and staff, the Girl Guides programme reached fruition.

Palm Ridge Primary School recently hosted a Girl Guides enrolment ceremony to officiate 41 girls into the programme and four teachers who were enrolled as adult leaders. They obtained their level one qualification.

The Girl Guides SA representatives Susan Vorster and Hazel Newington officiated the youngsters and adult leaders.

According to Mpho Ndala, an adult guide leader, the event was successful. She said they hoped to make a difference in the school and the community as Girls Guides.

She said there was a need in the community for programmes such as these (Girl Guides), to instil positive self-image, confidence, leadership, interpersonal and life skills in girls.

“We identified the need and introduced the programme to the school in March. My vision was to create a safe space for girls to learn, explore and develop holistically through the Girl Guide programme. The programme teaches girls to be independent, advocate for change and make an impact in their surroundings and globally,” she explained.

Ndala said the programme empowered girls to reach their full potential and become responsible citizens through dynamic programmes.

They have two units of 41 girls ranging from Grades Three to Seven.

“We are reaching out to entities for monetary assistance because we need many resources for activities such as camping, hiking, and giving back to the community or the school. These activities are done for clauses for the girls to earn badges,” she said.
