Crime at an all-time low in Norkem SAPS precinct

Only two house robberies were reported in Norkem Park during the festive season

THE crime report over the festive season in the Norkem Park SAPS precinct was at an all-time low.

This is according to Norkem Park SAPS spokesman, Capt Lesibana Molokomme.

“From December 25 to January 1, the Norkem Park area was a better area to be,” said Molokomme.

During that period Molokomme said only two house robberies had been reported.

“The challenge was burglaries at houses and theft out of motor vehicles. Housebreakings mostly took place while owners were away. Theft out of motor vehicles at malls and shopping centres and at residential houses during the night also needed to be addressed,” he explained.

“We urge the community to ensure that their property, especially laptops and cellphones, are kept safe and that all car doors are locked at all times.”

Molokomme further explained that motorists needed to test the car door by hand to ensure that it was locked. “We suspect criminals are using door jammers to make sure that the doors remain unlocked to have access into the car,” he pointed out.

“To those who leave their houses for a few days, ensure that someone is looking after the house. It can be a family member, security or neighbours.”

During the festive season Norkem Park SAPS arrested 16 suspects for different offences, including: four for driving under the influence of alcohol, two for assault under domestic violence, three for general theft, three for shoplifting, one for hijacking, one for the possession of dagga, one for attempted housebreaking, one for intimidation and one for common robbery.

“The station commander, Col Manana Tshabalala, thanks the community for the good behaviour they showed during December.”
