Vital information shared at business event

"This campaign is relevant. I had questions and they were answered."

Many business owners attended the Qondis’ ishishini lakho (Fix Your Business) campaign at Rabasotho Hall.

The campaign is a continuation of the drive Gauteng Premier David Makhura launched in Ivory Park on October 14 last year.

Zodwa Mashaba, of the Tembisa Business Association (TBA), said the event provided networking opportunities. Clarity on registering new companies and compliance of registered businesses was also provided.

“This campaign is relevant. I had questions and they were answered. Follow up initiatives will be done. If you are sitting at home, you will not receive the relevant and necessary information on how to grow your business,” said Zodwa.

30-year-old business owner, Mfanafuthi Ngcobo, said he received all that was needed from the event.

“Getting information out there is difficult. Today the information was brought to us. It is going to be easy to get business contracts due to a service provider’s database,” said Mfanafuthi.

Sbongiseni Ngcobo said attending the event gave him the direction as to where he is going with his business.

“You get the information on how to grow your business,” said one of the women business, Mercy Gebuza.

Nondumiso Msomi, a project manager, said the Gauteng Provincial Government took a resolution to allocate 30 percent of its procurement spend to township businesses.

“This campaign responds to some of those interventions where we are trying to get owners to register their businesses so that they can access opportunities.

“What is important is that they should not limit their opportunities to the private sector,” said Msomi.

Msomi said the campaign will continue until the end of June.

They will be going to all Gauteng regions.

She said to date the campaign has covered over 30 townships and they still have about 70 to visit.

She said the campaign has already assisted over 6 000 businesses.
