Armed robber arrested
A 24-year-old male was arrested for armed robbery at Winnie Mandela Park, zone 4 on Tuesday last week.
It is alleged by a 16-year-old boy that he was walking with his lady friend in one of the streets at Winnie Mandela when they were approached by three unknown men. According to the Tembisa SAPS communication officer Captain Manyadza Ralidzivha, the suspects pointed the victims with firearms and demanded cash and cell phones.
“They took their cell phones and fled the scene. While the victim was walking they saw a police van patrolling in the area and informed them about the incident. The police searched for the suspects,” he said.
Ralidzivha added that during the search, the police spotted the alleged criminals and chased them.
“One suspect was arrested and detained at the Tembisa police cells. He will appear in the Tembisa Magistrate’S Court for the charge of armed robbery. I am very happy with the arrest and thank our members for an immediate reaction. We urge the community not to walk in dark and dangerous places,” he said.
