Drain thief nabbed

Tembisa police arrested a 26-year-old man for allegedly stealing a drain cover at one of the schools at Umthambeka section on Saturday last week.

It is alleged by the police that they were summoned to the scene at Jiyane High School. On their arrival they found community members apprehended the suspect.

According to the Tembisa SAPS Constable Tebogo Sesing, the community told the police that the man had stolen drain cover in the yard of the school.

“They further alleged that they saw him carrying the cover with his friend. When some community members approached them they ran away. The community managed to apprehend one suspect who told the police that they were going to sell it to scrapyard so that they could be able to buy nyaope,” he said.

Constable Sesing added that the suspect was forthwith arrested and detained at the Tembisa police cells.

He is expected to appear in the Tembisa Magistrate’s Court to answer a charge of possession of suspected stolen property.

“I am very happy with the arrest and urge the scrapyard owners that they must not buy stolen properties. If found they will be arrested and be brought to justice,” said the Station Commander Brigadier Johan Jacobs.
