A 23-year-old pregnant woman was hit by a car on Pretoria Road on Wednesday last week.
William Ntladi, emergency services spokesman, said a call was received by the call centre and an ambulance and response vehicle from Kempton Park Fire Brigade were dispatched to the scene. On arrival, the female patient was found to have been knocked down by a vehicle and she was lying next to the road.
Ntladi said the patient was in a critical condition, having suffered mainly head injuries and a deep laceration to her right leg. It was also confirmed that she was seven months pregnant.
A witness, who wished to remain anonymous, said that the driver of the car that hit her, stopped and waited with her until the ambulance arrived. The witness also said the metro police were on the scene.
Ntladi confirmed that after being stabilised, the patient was transported to Tembisa Hospital by ambulance. He said she responded positively to the treatment on route and was safely handed over to hospital casualties.
