CONFESSION pages which started at universities in South Africa and received a lot of media attention, made their way to high schools.
Rhodesfield Technical High School is one of the schools which has three such pages.
On these pages learners brag about their sexual escapades, belittle each other and teachers.
A comment taken from one of Rhodesfield’s pages reads: “My confession is that I date 4 girls at school and all of them don’t know…only 2 are suspecting and the third 1 is pregnant…but she also slept with a teacher. Should I believe that she’s carrying my baby?”
The principal of Rhodesfield, Jan Nienaber, said they became aware of these pages last year. They investigated the matter but could not find the person or persons, who created the pages.
According to Nienaber, the comment about the teacher sleeping with a student, like many others, is not true.
He said most of the comments or confessions on these pages were false and mainly male students boasted about their exploits to impress others.
Nienaber said people not involved with Rhodesfield THS also join the pages. He noted that smart phones give learners the means to quickly and efficiently create or visit these pages.
Nienaber confirmed there are three pages linked to Rhodesfield THS and that one of them was created in the school’s own computer room.
He said Rhodesfield was on the same server as other schools in Kempton and that direct access to sites were blocked. However, going through a search engine like Google, it is possible for learners to get onto a web page.
