Praise Ndebele, a pupil at Ponelopele Oracle High School, was one of Gauteng’s top achievers for 2013.
He obtained distinctions in accounting, mathematics, business studies, English, life orientation, economics, maths paper 3 and Isizulu.
Praise was awarded a bursary, certificate, laptop, tablet device, printer and video camera from the Gauteng MEC for education, Barbara Creecy.
Praise plans to further his education by studying chartered accounting at the University of Cape Town.
“I was expecting the results because I motivated myself and worked very hard. I set a goal and make sure I reach it. I believe in reaching my goals,” he said.
“Never lose hope on something that you want to be. There are plenty of opportunities in order to perfect your future.”
School Principal, Mr Mokgopa Leso, said that out of 128 grade 12 pupils, 109 performed very well at the school.
“Although our school pass rate decreased from 94 percent to 84,8 percent, I am extremely excited about the good work being done by the pupils. Praise has done us proud and we wish him the best in his career as a young man. He must just continue flying the flag of the school and of the country at large,” he said.
His mother, Ms Cynthia Mgubane who is an accounting teacher at the school, said she extremely happy about the results obtained by her son.
“I am giving all the credit to his uncle and aunt; they have been nothing but supportive towards my child. Praise is a disciplined child who spends much of his time reading books. He never missed class, nor come late. He is such a kind boy, a blessing indeed. My others pupils should learn from him and follow into his footsteps. To pass is not about luck, is about hard work,” she said.
