Matabane shines

Molebogeng Morukhu (18), from Thuto-Ke-Matla Comprehensive School in Tembisa, obtained five distinctions in English, mathematics, life orientation, economics and physical science.

Molebogeng Morukhu (18), from Thuto-Ke-Matla Comprehensive School in Tembisa, obtained five distinctions in English, mathematics, life orientation, economics and physical science.

She said she was surprised and did not believe it.

“I was not expecting to achieve these kinds of results. I am delighted and thankful to have worked hard, as they say hard work pays. I thank God, who provided my family, teachers and friends to support me throughout the year. I am proud of myself,” she says

To achieve the marks, Morukhu said she pushed hard by attending extra classes, doing homework in groups and attended Saturday classes.

She said respecting every class from the beginning of the year made it a lot easier when writing the final exams.

“The biggest thing that helped me to achieve better was the respect I gave each and every exam paper I wrote. I am not praising myself, but I have always been a top achiever since my primary school days,” she added.

Morukhu said what makes her even happier is to have made her parents proud.

“My mother never gave up on driving me to school. She would also wait for me when I attended extra classes. She supported me fully and today we are celebrating the results. To those did not make it, try it until you pass. Education has no age limit,” she said.

Morukhu plans to further her education by studying medicine at the University of the Witwatersrand.

She was followed by Matshidiso Matabane, who obtained four distinctions in physical science, life science, geography and mathematics.

Matabane, plans to further her education by studying accounting at the University of Pretoria.

“Those did not make it must know it is not the end of the world. God has plans for each one of us. Don’t give up, push hard and it does not matter how long it takes,” she said.

Both pupils are still looking for bursaries to help them further their studies.
