Road works will start again in March

Work on Gladiator Street will commence in March after the new contractor has been appointed

THE reconstruction of roads in Rhodesfield and Spartan will commence soon.

According to many motorists and residents in the area, the roads have been in a bad condition since the road works came to a sudden stop in December.

“Gladiator Street was reconstructed from Fury Road to Albatross Street (north bound lane). Many services, mostly very old, had to be replaced and this delayed construction.

“The work on the road also came to a temporary halt due to the end of the contractor’s contract on December 31,” explained a metro spokesman.

She furthermore explained that the base level was primed and it was now ready to be tarred. Once new contractors are appointed the work will continue.

“The process of appointing new contractors is in an advanced stage and it is expected that work will commence during March,” she added.

Kingfisher Street will be placed on the priority list for investigation and reconstruction.

Plane Road has a subsurface water problem which was addressed in May/June 2013, continuous maintenance will be carried out on this road, including fixing of potholes.
