Biker injured in collision with taxi
A witness told EXPRESS the biker had suffered a broken left leg
A motorcyclist was injured on Pretoria Road in Birchleigh, going towards the Benoni exit, when he crashed into the back of a minibus taxi at around 10.50am on Tuesday.
According to a woman who witnessed the collision, she was driving ahead of the taxi when she slowed down and swerved out of the way to avoid a tree that had fallen into the road.
“”The tree probably fell over because of the heavy rains. As I was approaching the tree, I slowed down and moved out of the way,” the woman said.
“The taxi behind me did the same and that was when I heard a loud bang immediately afterwards.”
The woman got out of her car to check what was happening and realised the biker had rammed into the taxi from behind.
The taxi driver said the motorcyclist probably did not notice in time he was slowing down and trying to turn out of the way of the tree.
On arrival at the scene of the accident, EXPRESS found the biker lying on the ground, screaming from pain with metro police officers surrounding him, trying to keep him calm and warm.
A witness told EXPRESS the biker had suffered a broken left leg.
Maponya paramedics arrived on the scene at about 11am and attended to the injured man. According to the Maponya 911 Rescue call centre manager, the injured man was transported to Life The Glynnwood Hospital in Benoni.
According to Elbett Bole, marketing manager at Life The Glynnwood Hospital, the biker is in ICU and is stable and responding well to treatment.
According to a metro police officer who was on the scene, a case had been opened and the cause of the accident is being investigated.
