Another victim falls prey to online scam

He deposited R12 500 into the suspect's account to purchase a car and a year later, he is still waiting for the car

ANOTHER man was conned out of thousands of Rands after responding to an online advertisement.

A Kempton Park man deposited R12 500 into the suspect’s account to purchase a car which was advertised online in March last year.

“The victim saw a Toyota being advertised on the Junkmail website and contacted an Alfred Rasiwela, whose details were given in the advert. They made arrangements for payment to be made via EFT,” said Capt Jethro Mtshali, Kempton Park SAPS spokesman.

The victim deposited the amount into Rasiwela’s account and sent someone to collect the vehicle in Krugersdorp at the given address.

“Upon arrival in Krugersdorp it was discovered that the address was non-existent and the man realised he was scammed. He made several attempts to contact Rasiwela but to no avail,” said Mtshali.
