Telta executives make peace

The executive committee of the Tembisa Local Taxi Association (Telta) held an emergency meeting on Monday this week to try iron out the confusion between the executive and one member of the association.
This follows unfounded rumours allegedly spread by one of their own, accusing the chairperson of the association of hiring hit-men to kill him.
The allegations were made on a local radio station while the Telta chairperson was on-air, discussing taxi issues with other taxi associations. A number of listeners phoned in and accused the member of trying to air dirty laundry in public.
“He later came to us and asked for forgiveness. He assured us he had made a mistake which will never be repeated again,” said a member of the executive.
The member who made the allegations signed a document stating he will adhere to certain rules.
The letter, which the Tembisan has a copy, stated that the man will, among other things, respect the constitution of Telta, will stop being aggressive and will never disrespect the chairperson of Telta again.
The member claimed the chairperson of Telta arrived at his home with a hit-man on the back of his bakkie. This person then allegedly fired several shots at the member’s house.
Telta said the chairperson’s bakkie was in for repairs at the time of the alleged incident.
The case was reported to the police, who are investigating.
