Academic awards for best achievers

Shukumani Primary School held an award ceremony at the end of the school’s first term.

Shukumani Primary School held an award ceremony at the end of the school’s first term.

Close to 48 pupils received certificates and medals for improving their academic results.

The school even went so far as to reward parents for helping their children with their school work.

“The event allowed us to reward hard-working, polite and well-behaved pupils. We were also able to reward those who contribute to the school. The pupils who received awards are now role models for the other pupils. We also wanted to reward parents for being involved with their children’s education,” said the school’s deputy principal, Mrs Mogano.

“The event was inspiring. Teachers have placed a lot of emphasis on new pupils feeling a part of the school and community,” she said.

One of the pupils to receive a prize, Siyanda Dladla in grade 1, said he was happy to receive an award.

“It felt good to receive the certificate because it means my teachers noticed my work. My mom will also be happy when I show her the certificate,” he said.

As a part of the celebrations, pupils took part in traditional dances, drum majorettes, public speaking and modern dance.
