Police nail fleeing burglar in suburb

The man was one of three who broke into a house on Bosloerie Street

ONE of three fleeing housebreakers was arrested in Van Riebeeck Park when Norkem Park SAPS came across them, loading their loot onto a bakkie.

The 34-year-old man was nabbed at about 11am in Bosloerie Street on March 26.

Norkem Park SAPS spokesman, Capt Lesibana Molokomme, said the arrest was made by Consts Malebo Marema and Sello Sema after they went to the house to respond to a complaint of housebreaking.

“On arrival at the scene the officers spotted three men loading some items into a white Nissan 1400. When they saw the officers, they fled from the scene, leaving behind the vehicle,” Molokomme said.

The police chased after the criminals and managed to arrest one. When they went back to the scene of the crime they discovered the men had broken into the home and several electrical appliances had been stolen. The recovered items were valued at about R60 000, Molokomme said.

On further investigation, it was discovered the van was stolen and the canopy was reported stolen at Sandton Police Station in March.

The police suspect the vehicle could be linked to several other crimes. The police also suspect the canopy, which has a business logo on, was stolen by the men to pretend they are a business in order to not look suspicious when breaking into homes.

Anyone with information should call Norkem Park Police Station on 011-391-1813.
