Carols by candlelight for the elderly

The celebration was held at Zibutheni Hall in Mqantsa Section, Tembisa, on Friday last week.

According to the ward secretary, Ms Hluphi Shili, the event was also to commemorate Nelson Mandela.

“We wanted to cheer up the elderly during the festive season. Many people are going away over the festive season and many elderly residents will be left alone. With this kind of event, we show the elderly that we still recognise and respect them,” she said.

The Women’s League in Ward 5 gave out Christmas presents to 120 elderly residents.

Ms Shili added that they are planning to launch the Veterans’ League early next year.

“We thank ANC members and community members who supported and made the event successful,” she added.
